How to Shed the Exam Stress

Exam time brings along with it anxiety, fear, tension, and worry. These negative emotions build up to create the devil called stress. So dear friends let's know how to manage stress in the right way and not letting it overcome you with me.

How, when , and who started the exams ???

Sui dynasty in 605 AD in ancient china (first country in the world) implemented a nationwide standardized test, which was called the imperial examination. The main purpose was to select able candidates for specific governmental positions. This examination system was later to applied to education and it started to influence other parts of the world as it became a prominent standard, for delivering standardized tests.

The power of positive thinking :

Brain cells create ideas. stress kills brain cells. stress is not a good idea. stress can affect both your body and your mind. people under large amounts of stress can become tired, sick, and unable to concentrate or think clearly. You know friends, " The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another" therefore we must spend time with people who have a positive affect. it will rub off on you. avoid negative thoughts, such as ' Everyone else seems better organized, while I'm struggling.' Challenge such thoughts with positive thinking; for example, ' I have done well in exams before.' Adopting the right attitude can convert a negative stress into a positive one.

No Distractions :

Keep all unimportant issues at bay. at the time of your examination, your focus must be on it. stay away from distractions that could cause loss of concentration or unwanted anxiety. Yes friend, as we all know " The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step." and " though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending."
  • Develop a timetable to monitor your progress.
  • Make sure you allocate adequate time for fun and relaxation as well.
  • while revising a subject, practice writing.
  • plan your revision and complete it in time. This will build your confidence. while revising , vary subjects and their difficulties so that you don't get bored or disheartened. Set realistic targets.
  • Spend as much time on recall as on reading.
  • practice writing answers under exam conditions. Take three hour tests, without a break in between, preferably at the same time as that of the exam. This will help your body clock adjust to the examination time and conditions.

Practice Relaxation Techniques :

Practice deep breathing, meditation and Yoga as forms of relaxation. They help your body relax and reduce stress. alternately, take a brisk walk in fresh air after your day's revision is over. If you believe in god, prayer before you start studying. Prayer before you start studying. prayer will help you increase confidence and reduce your stress as well.

Revision - Techniques

Try to develop your own technique for revision. different techniques work for different people. here are some :-
  • Read and Memorise.
  • Summary notes - short version of main notes.
  • list of keywords for each topic covered, which can act as "triggers" for other ideas.
  • Some kind of diagrammatic representation of notes can be helpful.
  • Revise with a friend or colleague - if possible , exchange ideas during revision - this can be very helpful in understanding topics and building confidence.
